American Airlines will start flying the Boeing 787 Dreamliner nonstop to Shanghai on June 26, the same month it launches international flights to Beijing and Buenos Aires.
All flights launch from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Tickets go on sale for the Shanghai Dreamliner flights on April 5.
Fort Worth-based American started flying the D/FW Airport to Shanghai route using a Boeing 777-200 last summer.
The new Dreamliner offers several advantages, mainly because its composite construction and lighter weight make it more fuel efficient, making it less costly to operate.
American’s first Dreamliner arrived at D/FW Airport for testing in January and has since flown dry runs to Europe and Asia. The aircraft will enter commercial service with the D/FW Airport to Chicago O’Hare Airport in May. American launches international service to Beijing in May with the 777-200 but will switch to the Dreamliner in June. The Buenos Aires and now Shanghai routes will also start then.
The Dreamliner has not been without problems, though, as delays getting first-class seats prompted American to store two of the new aircraft in the desert for the time being.
