A Pakistan International Airlines¬†Flight (PIA) from Karachi, Pakistan to London, Heathrow (UK) returned to Karachi shortly after takeoff today when one of the plane’s engines failed.

PIA Flight 787, an Airbus A310, returned to Karachi after several loud bangs occurred followed by flames out of the left-side engine.

‘The plane with flight number 787 remained hovering over the airport for about 15 minutes before it managed to land at the airport, said airport authorities. The pilot discharged part of the plane’s fuel before it was ready for an emergency landing, said local media.’

There were no reports of any injuries.

A PIA spokesman denied the local media reports about the plane engine fire, saying the plane made an emergency landing only because of some technical problems.

May I suggest one clicks the blue ‘source’ tag at the bottom of the report that takes you to the newspaper that wrote this stuff?

Talk about paraphrasing and 4th person reporting, this was a newish B777 and not subject to the ‘aging fleet’ and ‘funding’ issues as written in the original report. If it were it would not have been allowed to operate into Europe.

The word hovering over the airport indicates simple poor journalism to those of us that actually have some background knowledge and ignore ‘eye witness’ statements for what they may be, reporter imaginatary friends etc…..hope I am not being too harsh here!!

O come on! Since when PIA has started transporting it’s passengers, to london, in a helicopter ? Only a helicopter can HOVER. It makes one feel so funny, when journalists report of occurances/accidents/events, in the aviation world, naively. Why can’t, someone with ample aviation knowledge, investigate and built a news. They have responsibility, for providing a credible news, to the people, after all. There are western journalists, never had that funny feeling, reading through their reports. And also, aircrafts, don’t DISCHARGE fuel, it DUMPS the fuel. Moreover A310 type of aircrafts, don’t DISCHARGE or DUMP the fuel.
