A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) jet suffered a bird strike while landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport damaging its engine yesterday.

Independent News Pakistan reports:

‘According to details, the PIA flight from Islamabad was landing at Karachi airport when a bird hit its engine causing damage to engine No.1. The pilot however managed to land the aircraft safely.

Sources said that several PIA aircraft have been hit by birds in the past few weeks causing huge losses to the airline. They said it has become almost a routine that birds hit the aircraft in Karachi and Islamabad but no attention is paid towards this danger. They warned that some serious mishap could take place any time if this situation continued. ‘

The aircraft was a Boeing 777.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.
