Ryanair took a Boeing 737 plane out of service to be cleaned and disinfected after 2 passengers claimed they had been bitten by ticks on a flight to Italy.

The Irish Times reports:

‘Ryanair said today two passengers who travelled from Billund, Denmark to Ciampino, Italy, had made a complaint while waiting in the terminal to collect baggage.

“As the source of these alleged insect bites was unknown, Ryanair was happy to disinfect the aircraft overnight before returning it to service on Friday September 7th,” it said.’

Italian media reported that medics in Italy diagnosed tick bites on the flyers. Airport authorities called pest control as a result.

There have been no additional reports of any bites or insects.

Do the passengers really expect the airline to be responsible for this? Some ticks are as small as a grain of sand- i mean how can they possibly inspect each aircraft seat thread in a 25 minute turnaround? Heck, they don’t even have time to vacuum!

I agree with you Chris. You need a very good eye or magnifying glass to see the majority of ticks. I am all for customer service but sometimes passangers need to be a little more understanding. What would someone do if a passanger in their car was bitten by a tick? Pull out their wallet and compensate the passanger? Bugs are everywhere in this world. I am not a fan of Ryanair but i do think they handled this properly.

Exactly, and i don’t even think a magnifying glass could spot them embedded in the fabric of the seats! It’s scary how “politically correct” and “well, that’s not fair” our world is becoming… People should be thankful they can pay 10euros to board a 50 million dollar aircraft and be able to go places at 500mph.
