Southwest Airlines plans to cut at least half its flights from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to New York by next spring.
The Maryland Gazette writes that Southwest flights from BWI to LaGuardia Airport will end Jan. 6. And Southwest flights from BWI to Newark Liberty International Airport, in New Jersey, will end March 9.
“Honestly, we have to look at profitability and customer demand,” said Southwest spokeswoman Ashley Dillon. “We just didn’t see the demand there that we wanted.”
Instead, Southwest planes will travel from LaGuardia to Chicago and Nashville. Similarly, Southwest planes will travel from Newark to Austin, Nashville and New Orleans.
