Kingfisher CEO Vijay Mallya has not been able to pay his employees in months...

Pilots for struggling Kingfisher Airlines went on strike once again today and as a result 19 flights had to be cancelled.

Kingfisher pilots are demanding immediate payment of their March salaries which they were reportedly promised to receive by August 17th.

“About 15 pilots had gone to meet the CEO to enquire about the March salary since the pilots were promised by the management that every one would be paid by August 17. They were made to wait for an hour and half and then told the Chairman (Vijay Mallya) has said they will be paid by Tuesday,” they said.

The shortage of pilots today put a strain on an airline that is already near its breaking point, as it is only operating a quarter of its total fleet.

“Eight departures from Mumbai and an equal number of flights from other places to the city have been cancelled due to non-availability of pilots in the wake of the strike by a section of its pilots,” a Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) official said.

Kingfisher flights from Delhi to Dharamshala, Udaipur and Dehradun were also cancelled.

Most of Kingfisher’s employees have reportedly not been paid since March.

I’m usually the last one to stand by a labor force striking, but this is so justified its ridiculous. Why is the government not stepping in and ending this nonsense?!

Gotta hang some of this on the pilots too unfortunately. Who the Hell shows up for work when they haven’t been paid for several months. 100% of their flights should be cancelled.
