An American Airlines jet flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) to Dallas Ft. Worth (DFW) diverted to Miami International (MIA) for an emergency landing with a possible mechanical problem.
American Flight 1549, a Boeing 757-200 aircraft, was over the Gulf of Mexico en route to DFW when the pilot decided to divert to Miami.
Flight 1549 landed safely at 11:23 AM this morning and there were no injuries. The cause is currently being investigated.
There are reports Miami emergency crews on the ground originally responded to a ‘level 2 emergency’, but this has yet to be confirmed.
UPDATE – 1:49 PM EDT:
We reached out to American Airlines and they informed us it was possibly a faulty warning light…pilot not sure if it was faulty or a real problem, hence the diversion to MIA out of caution. The 757 was taken out of service while they investigate. Passengers were put on another plane to continue on to DFW.
