Allegiant Air Ending 3 Los Angeles Routes, No Space at LAX

Allegiant Air MD-80

Allegiant Air has said that they will suspend service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and 3 cites: Sioux Falls, SD, Billings, Montana and Pasco, Washington.

A shortage of space is the reason. LAX does not have adequate gate space and ticket counters to accomodate Allegiant.

The Las Vegas area-based carrier still has routes between Sioux Falls and Las Vegas and is not ruling out a return if more space becomes available.

So I’m confused. They’re “pulling out” because “… LAX does not have adequate gate space and ticket counters…”? What have they been using as ticket counters and gates up to this point? Obviously they had something unless they were selling tickets out of a double wide trailer up in the parking garage and making passengers walk out to the runway to board to load. Maybe, just maybe the writer could be a little more thorough in his reporting and give some context to the story. Did their counters and gates get taken back by another airline? Just wondering….

Don’t know Dennis…we we’re wondering that ourselves. Then again, it could be an excuse.

dennis, Allegiant only has a single gate at LAX in terminal 6. For a while they have been “sharing” gates with Delta, but now that Delta’s increased their schedules, Allegiant literally has no more gates. They’ve been having planes go to gates in terminal 5, literally all over the place. They simply don’t have enough gates to themselves! Sounds silly but it’s true.

Allegiant only used a single gate in terminal 6 at LAX. Two planes, scattered times, lots of flights!
