American to Add 2 More Boeing 777-300ER Jets
American Airlines will exercise options on 2 more Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and will upgrade a 777-200ER to a 777-300ER as it continues to renew its fleet.
American had already announced the purchase of 10 777-300ER planes and will start adding the long-range, wide-body jet later this year.
“The 777-300ER will play a key role in American Airlines effort to build the most modern, efficient fleet in the industry,” said John Wojick, vice president of North America Sales for Boeing, “The airplane will offer American flexibility in serving nonstop routes, while providing increased efficiency and reliability needed to be successful in today’s competitive marketplace.”
American is in the middle of bankruptcy reorganization, and upgrading their fleet to newer, more fuel efficient airplanes is a key part of their growth strategy.
The Ft. Worth, Texas-based carrier will be replacing their older MD-80s, 737s and others with newer Boeing jets like the 777 as well as the new 737 MAX and Airbus A320 and A321s.

I wish they’d use the 777 for shorter domestic flights. :(
