A Frontier Airlines plane bound for Chicago, O’Hare (ORD) diverted to Hollywood International Airport (Fort Lauderdale/FLL) on Monday when there was a suspected fire in the cargo hold.

Frontier Flight 8541, operating as a charter for Apple vacations, took off from Puna Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) at 1:04 PM local time with 173 passengers and crew.

The crew reported a cockpit indicator light for possible smoke in the aft cargo hold, according to the FAA.

The pilot deployed the fire suppression system in the aft cargo hold, and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue found no indication of smoke or fire, agency spokesman Mike Jachles said.

The Airbus A320-200 landed safely with no injuries. The passengers are expected to depart Fort Lauderdale today on another flight.

Oh thank god!! Better to have been a false alarm than a real incident.
