Yeah, I live here in Beijing. It was terrible. We had the biggest rains in over forty years. It rained on Saturday for about 6 hours nonstop. One place near my house where the road went under an overpass, the drains got clogged. Water went up to 1.7 meters. People just left their cars (Which were getting filled up with water and stalling)and went home.

You can get some heavy rain out there but this really topped it eh?

Actually, though not publicized much, Beijing is almost a desert. It is on the edge of the expanding Gobi and they regularly divert rivers from other regions to supply water for the capital. This year is an exception.

I didn’t know that Shawn. Wow. Do you live there for work or just to live?

          • Shawn says:

Kindda live here just to live. I am only 14 so I am still studying while my parents work here, although it is my dream to become a pilot and eventually work for a Chinese airline.

      Shawn,
I hope you are safe and alright after the terrible floods in Beijing.
My 21 year old son is there teaching English. He is suppose to fly home to Michigan, USA this Tuesday.
Since I have no way of contacting him, I am looking up all I can on the internet. (which is how I came across your post from a few days ago)
The pictures of the flood are sad. I am assuming my son, John is OK because I would have heard something from his school if there was any problem.
My prayers are with the people of Beijing.

While it did cause a hassle, since it is in the city, some damage was done to building’s floors and stuff but nothing major. THere were no landslides or anything of the sort. He should be fine.

But then Sunday and today are boiling without a cloud in sight:)
