Emirates and Gatwick Airport made a little history today as the carrier landed its flagship aircraft, the Airbus A380, at the London Airport today for the first time.
This marks the first time that Gatwick has ever received an Airbus A380. The flight also held over 500 passengers which is the most ever for a single flight at the London airport.
The A380 cannot fully dock at a gate at Gatwick…the airport is still building new gates to accomodate the Superjumbo for regular arrivals next summer.
‘Guy Stephenson, commercial director at Gatwick Airport said it was an emotional experience seeing the A380 land for the first time, lauding it as “one of the best days I have ever had working here.”
Laurie Berryman, Emirates vice president UK said that bringing in the A380 served two purposes, first to prove that it “fits the airport perfectly well” and also to celebrate 25 years of service at the airport.’
Emirates currently operates 3 daily flights between Dubai and Gatwick using Boeing 777 aircraft.
