An Air New Zealand flight leaving Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) had to turn back for an emergency landing when the pilot suffered an apparent heart attack Saturday night.

ANZ Flight 1, a Boeing 777 with 316 passengers on board, left LAX at approximately 8:52 PM local time and was bound for Auckland but returned when the pilot became incapacitated.

‘A doctor who was a passenger on the plane from Los Angeles to Auckland treated the pilot as the plane turned back to LA.

“The flight was being operated by three pilots so the flight deck remained fully staffed at all times,” an Air New Zealand spokeswoman said.’

The 777  made a safe landing at LAX and there were no other injuries.

The pilot was taken to a local hospital and is under observation. His condition is not known.

Continental Airlines had a Boeing 777 Captain die of a massive heart attack in mid flight recently too. I hear that the on board computers in the flight deck are slow to respond. This could help induce heart attacks and now that we have evidence that the Captain’s have more heart attacks than the passengers on board Boeing 777′s, it’s a fact that Boeing 777′s kill their Captain’s early.
