A Blue Islands Airline flight from Guernsey to Jersey in the Channel Islands (UK) suffered a gear collapse right after landing earlier today with 43 people aboard.

Flight 308, an ATR-42 aircraft, had just landed and was about to taxi when the left main gear collapsed.

The timing of the failure, however, couldn’t have been better in terms of safety:

‘Doug Bannister, Jersey Airport’s chief executive, told BBC News the incident would have been more serious if the failure had occurred as the plane was landing.

“If the landing gear had collapsed directly on landing it would have been a much larger incident because the plane is clearly going much faster,” he said.’

The plane was evacuated quickly and there are no reported injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
