Air Mauritius is considering investment from another airline to help them replace their aging Airbus A340 aircraft to a newer, more efficient fleet within the next 5 years.

The African island nation-based airline wants to get rid of its 6 A340s most likely replace them with Airbus’ yet-to-be released A350 or Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner.

Air Mauritius CEO Andre Viljoen said they would like to partner with either Emirates or Air France-KLM and will ask for such consideration.

“A strategic partner may assist with our own required future fleet requirements,” he said in the presentation, adding that new twin-jet planes will be a “game-changer,” offering a saving of as much as 30 percent over the four-engine A340s.

The airline has lost $37 million thus far this year as skyrocketing fuel costs have wiped out profit from a year ago.

“Aging” a340 fleet? In Africa? LOL

How old can they be, 20??

Read well… “African island based” and “in Africa is not the same”…
      Stupid

Yes, Air Mauritius has six A340. Four of them were delivered between 1994 and 1999.

      • JamesMX says:

Well it sounds like they can’t get those new planes fast enough. How is the reliability/safety record of A340s?

        • Chris says:

Only a couple of crash landings that i can think of, none of which resulted in any fatalities. For the few A340′s that have been produced, statistically the incidents:production number is quite high, but at least no one has died on one yet!

I just love smart-ass answers that add nothing to the discussion. Tool.

I know, right!? Like it makes a difference “where” in nowhere-land this airline is based… Foreign airlines seem to be getting more picky than airlines in the US!
