Monarch Airlines A321 Diverted to Gatwick When Man’s Hair Catches Fire
A Monarch Airlines charter Airbus A321 jet that was flying to Majorca Island Thursday morning had to divert when an apparent prank on board the flight resulted in a man’s head catching fire.
‘The plane, which had 212 passengers on board, was flying over France around 90 minutes after takeoff when the cabin crew smelled smoke and the captain decided to land at Gatwick.’
Reports indicate a man played a prank on a friend by lighting his hair on fire. They were part of a stag group traveling to the island.
A statement from the airline said:
‘“Monarch confirms that flight ZB532, flying from Manchester to Majorca on Thursday May 31, diverted into London Gatwick where one passenger was off-loaded from the aircraft due to an incident onboard,”
“Monarch Airlines has a zero tolerance approach to disruptive passengers on board.”’
The 24 year-old man was arrested.

Haha, SERIOUSLY? This has got to be a first LOL…
My question is how did they get an ignition source on the plane? They really used up their allowed 3oz on a lighter?? Why do i think these things shouldn’t be allowed on persons boarding a plane?
So here you go…and Airbus had an problem that caused diversion. EXCEPT the plane was fine! Bollocks! :)
There’s gotta be an anti-Boeing message in your comment seomwhere…:)
Where did the “Airbus have ‘an’ problem”? I think the article made it very clear that the unruly passenger caused the diversion, not by any fault of the plane. Did i miss something?
The Airbus is such a boring plane that passengers are driven to pull stupid pranks.
LOL!!
Haha, i suppose the A319 is rather boring when compared to planes of the early jet-age. All new planes are pretty boring… Not loud enough, not enough power, etc… I do enjoy the A320 family’s extra wide fuselage though!
All stag parties should be barred from flying!!
The punishment never seems to be that severe when people get outta control in a plane. I think that’s why people continue to do things like this.
