KLM Royal Dutch Airlines this weekend took delivery of its newest Embraer 190 for KLM Cityhopper. The aircraft with its SkyTeam livery is the last of KLM’s current order of 22 Embraers.

Last year, KLM Cityhopper signed an order for five additional E190 aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. This economical aircraft will replace part of KLM’s Fokker fleet.

Sixteen of KLM’s 20 Fokker-100s have already left the fleet. The four remaining aircraft will be phased out of operations and sold before the end of the year.

The Embraer 190 is also deployed by Régional, Air France’s regional subsidiary. The E190 can carry up to 100 passengers and offers a spacious and comfortable 2-2 seat configuration.

Owing to its efficient design, including upturned winglets on its wingtips, the E190 is more economical, with fuel consumption at least 10% below that of its predecessor. This also ensures lower CO2 emissions.

The new Embraer is the third aircraft in the KLM and KLM Cityhopper fleet that has the SkyTeam livery. The first of these aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, landed at Schiphol in August 2009, and KLM Engineering & Maintenance later also decorated a Boeing 737-900 with the now familiar grey-blue livery. It has been agreed that all SkyTeam members paint 3% of their fleet in alliance colours.

I’ll admit i’ve never flown on the ERJ-190, but i’m sure it’s a nice little plane. I have flown on the ERJ-145 though, and prefer it to the CRJ both for quietness and the 1-2 seating vs the 2-2. A thinner cabin but the 1-2 seating makes it feel much more open. Good for KLM i guess! This ERJ-190 might be looking like a nice plane for airlines after the Superjet 100 incident a while ago…

I’ve flown the 190. Yes, it’s a nice bird. I like the Embraers. Good planes.
