A Jet Airways plane was met by fire crews on the taxiway this morning when one of its engines caught fire after landing.

Jet Airways Flight 523 had just landed at Mumbai International Airport at approximately 5:30 AM local time when a controller noticed one of its engines had caught fire.

The airline said in a statement (in part):

‘”…while taxiing was advised by the Air Traffic Control (ATC), to return to base as there was slight visibility of smoke from engine, as also observed by the cockpit crew. As standard operating procedure one engine was shut down, and guests were safely deplaned”‘.

The aircraft was reported to be a Boeing 737-800 but we are working to confirm this.

The flight was coming from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with 150 passengers on board.

The aircraft has been taken out of service for inspection.
