Air France has started round-trip service between Paris, France (CDG) and Los Angeles (LAX) today with Airbus’ A380 Superjumbo airliner.

LA is Air France’s third US destination using the A380.

For its summer program, Air France is flying eight A380 planes between Paris and seven cities – Los Angeles, New York, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Montreal, Washington and Singapore.

This autumn the French carrier will also put into service a flight between Paris and Shanghai in the superjumbo, depending on flight plan authorization.

Oh damn… it won’t be going over my house. :(

I love looking up from my bedroom window and seeing the giant A380 on it’s final to JFK.

You live in the flight path of JFK Chris?

      • Chris says:

Yepp, pretty much every plane coming from overseas has to go over my house to get to JFK, Newark, sometimes even Miami. I live in RI, which gives me a great view of planes starting their descent into the Northeast Airports. As i type this, i can see a 777 with PIA, FL# 723 right outside my window at 30k ft. I track them on flightaware (by searching my local airpirt KPVD) and look at the planes with my binoculars! :D

That’s very cool. I’m about 10 minutes from DFW and I go down to a place called Founders Plaza where you can watch planes coming in for landing on runway 35R or 35C (can’t remember which).

That’s awesome!! I found a nice little place to pull over to watch planes tasking off from PVD, but the planes here are pretty lame… The biggest thing we get here is maybe a 757 with UPS/FedEx and possibly a 767 when sports teams visit. AF1 did visit once, and we had an a340 with Iberia to bring a soccer team a while back… I’d love to live near DTW or ATL, and definitely DFW! I’d love just watching the AA MD80′s :D

You see AA MD 80′s all day here Chris! I was just out in my back yard and and at least 3 were doing a go-around over me. :)

    • Chris says:

Ugh i’m jealous! The only chance i ever get to see an MD80 at my airport is when Delta has them depart at 6am, 11:30am, 6:30pm, and arrive 11am, 6pm and 11pm. I used to have a FedEx 727 arriving at 3am and departing at 9pm but they replaced it with a 757 this past Nov… stupid thing, i hate the 757! I wish they could have made the 72′ more fuel efficient! It’s much better looking, and the noise of those engines!! I could hear it take off from the airport which is about 20mins driving time away… I’m not kidding!

Hey Chris…by the end of next year AA is going to be mothballing HUNDREDS of the MD-80s and sending them most likely to Mojave and Arizona. Let’s get a road trip together and go check em out! :)
