A passenger on a Ryanair flight has been awarded $5,000 after his genitals were scalded by hot tea mid-flight.

Darren Weldon, from Dublin, Ireland, burned the tip of his penis when his tray table collapsed sending hot tea on him.

The incident took place in August, 2007.

Weldon apparently placed his tea on the tray table and it gave way.

‘Hot tea splashed over his jeans and Weldon claimed in his Civil Bill that he was ‘scalded to his genital’ area and ‘burned to the tip’ of his penis.

The Irish Sun reports that Weldon requested assistance from staff and went to the toilet to apply cold water to his injuries.

He was treated for his injuries at Tallaght hospital on his return to Dublin.’

Ryanair denied liability and claimed Weldon and his cousin, who was traveling with him, were engaging in ‘horseplay’ before the incident occurred.

Hmm.

The judge ruled Ryanair should have addressed the faulty tray table before letting a passenger use it.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the source of this photo? Was it offered up to your website by the good gentleman M.O’Leary for this article or is it a photo related to some other issue.

    Kind Regards, Darren Weldon.

  5. Darren Weldon says:

Just in case there is anyone interested in hearing the entire version of what really went on both the day of the health and safety breach on that 737 flight in my own words.

I plan to publish an article online on or after June 17th.

What has been published in various newspapers is missing some “important details” which shall be clarified as soon as I obtain a copy of the Court Transcript and Judicial Verdict from the courts.

This will be an exclusive article telling the tale from a different point of view. I shall post a link to it on this website at that time.

    Thank you.
