An American Airlines MD-80 (MD-82) was hit by an airport maintenance vehicle yesterday at Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) as the aircraft was sitting at its gate.
The FAA reported that American Flight 026 was the plane involved in the incident and occurred at 12:05 PM local time.
The FAA said the aircraft sustained ‘substantial’ damage to one of its wings.
There was no official confirmation whether or not there were passengers aboard the airliner but the FAA said there were no injuries.

I saw a 757 tip a SkyChef truck over one time like it was a toy! The sheer weight and power of an airliner is not to be underestimated.
Back in Marc,h the wing of a Delta MD88 hit a bus and tipped it over on its side! The wing only had a little damage… It just shows how durable the DC9/MD-80 is built- without a doubt one of the most durable still flying today!

How much does one of those weigh anyway??
Probably over 100k lbs… Not as much as a bus or a truck! It’s just amazing that those little stubby wings don’t break on impact… they’re built so well!
An MD-80 is about 150,000 lbs
DAMN! That’s a lot of mass for those tiny little wings to hold up during flight. I’ve got a 1:200 scale model of the MD80, and as i look at it, it’s amazing to think how well designed it is. It’s a beautiful piece of machinery!
Yeah….727 and MD-80…always loved the T tail. :)
I agree! Definitely the most beautiful configuration! :)
