American Airlines Needs 3 Planes to Get Passengers to Haiti
Passengers got a new definition of the term ‘flight diverted’ when an American Airlines flight scheduled to go to Port au Prince, Haiti (TPP) had to be diverted twice…and taking 3 planes to get them there.
American Flight 837 left John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) at 11:48 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 15th headed to Haiti (scheduled departure was 9:05 AM EDT) when the Boeing 767 had ‘navigation issues’. Pilots then diverted to Washington, Dulles (IAD).
A replacement 767 took off about 9 hours later to resume its trip but this aircraft diverted to Miami International (MIA) due to a ‘technical issue’.
A third 767 took off from Miami 7 hours later finally getting the flyers to Port au Prince.
Approximate delay…24 hours.
Maybe a hot-air balloon next time…
Honestly, I’d rather wait for a new plane…:)

With all the AA incidents lately I think I’d rather wait for a new airline.
3 planes?? What piles of junk! Can’t get those new planes fast enough!!
Haha- I mean, i’m a pretty forgiving person especially when it comes to pilots doing what they need to for airline safety, but this is a bit much! I hope those passengers get a refund!
American Executive: “Hey Boeing…when will our new planes be ready. We need them ASAP. These ones are broken.”
Boeing Executive: “…And you’re going to pay for these how…????”
LOL true, true. American needs to sort out their finances, quick. But it’ll be sad to see the MD80′s go. :(
Someone will buy up those MD-80s. There’s always a new airline or a foreign one ready to swoop em up.
Allegiant Air for example.
More like Delta Air Lines…
Every time I fly to Haiti american airlines has to turn the plane around as a result of technical issues, including an emergency turn around over the ocean. This can’t possibly be a safe way to travel.
Look at the bright side- It’s B-767 now instead of the old ratty A-300.
