United Airlines Dog Breed Ban to be Lifted
United Airlines has buckled under the pressure of widespread protests and petitions and lifted their ban on 9 breeds of dogs that could not fly on the airline.
United Airlines adopted Continental’s PetSafe program last month and as result 9 breeds of dogs were banned from flying on the airline.
Dogs originally banned:
1.American Staffordshire Terrier
2.Ca de Bou
3.Cane Corso
4.Dogo Argentino
5.Fila Brasileiro
6.Perro de Presa Canario
7.Pit Bull Terrier
8.Presa Canario
9.Tosa Ken.
But pet groups and petitions pushed United to rescind the ban.
“As a result of feedback, United will now accept previously restricted breeds of dogs,” United said in a statement. However, the dogs must be in a non-plastic, reinforced crate that meets certain container requirements. Details are online at: tinyurl.com/united-pets.
Hawaii resident Jessie Huart started the petition after her 10-year-old pit bull was denied travel due to his breed.
“I am thrilled that United listened to their customers,” Huart said in a news release. “This change is a victory for responsible dog owners everywhere at a time when many are facing breed discrimination.”
Dogs rule the day! As I said in our post last month, just require cages to be stronger. Issue solved.

Did not know that about my employer, United. When my dog flew, I don’t even think I was asked about his breed but I think it was on his papers. They were more interested that he was up-to-date on his shots.
I didn’t realize transporting dogs on a plane was such a big deal until I read United’s ban a while back.
