Southwest 737 Rejects Takeoff at Oakland Due to Bird Strike
A Southwest Airlines flight rejected its takeoff at Oakland International Airport on Thursday afternoon when it struck a bird.
Southwest flight 2855, a Boeing 737 flying from Oakland International (OAK) to Las Vegas (LAS) aborted its departure during takeoff roll when it ingested a bird in to its right-hand engine, according to the FAA.
The airliner was able to taxi back to the gate where passengers were rebooked on another flight.
Sources at Oakland say the engine sustained ‘serious’ damage and the aircraft was taken out of service.
