UPDATE – April 1, 2012:

The pilot was taxiing the aircraft when the smoke/fire was detected.

A US Airways flight was evacuated this morning when the plane’s engine caught fire at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport (BUR).

Flight 271, an Airbus A319, was bound for Phoenix this morning and all passengers were reportedly aboard when the incident happened:

‘Prior to takeoff, there was in indication of fire in an engine. The emergency call came in just after 7 a.m. Burbank Fire Chief Frank Walbert said the on-board fire extinguisher system was activated and the fire was put out.’

All 67 passengers got off the airliner safely with no injuries.

The incident occurred at about 8:00 AM local time.
