UPDATE – March 29, 2012 – 7:00 AM EDT:

The woman arrested is 50 year-old Peggy S. Albedhady-Sanchez of Union City, New Jersey. Additional reports indicate Miss Sanchez was “very” intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The woman has been charged with Assault and Battery as well as interference with a flight crew. She punched 2 flight attendants and assaulted another.

A woman has been arrested by Florida authorities after she became violent on a US Airways flight on Tuesday and attacked the crew.

Flight 1697 was flying from Charlotte Douglas Airport (CLT), North Carolina to Fort Myers, Florida (RSW) when according to reports a woman started complaining that she was scared of flying. She then got out of her seat and the incident escalated:

‘They say the woman got out of her seat and attacked the flight crew, spitting in their faces, knocking one flight attendant to the ground and kicking the crew. One female flight attendant had bruises and bandages up her arms in addition to scratch marks.’

The woman was eventually restrained and was actually tied up until the plane landed at around 6:00 PM local time where she was handed over to authorities.

No passengers were hurt in the incident.

It is not known yet what charges may be brought against her.

The aircraft was an Airbus A321.

This incident occurred just hours after a JetBlue Captain had some sort of breakdown and had to be restrained while the co-pilot made an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas.
