Report: Air Traffic Controllers Sleeping on the Job? [VIDEO]
A local New York Fox News affiliate has revealed through their own investigation disturbing images and video of air traffic controllers sleeping, reading and texting while on the job at Westchester Airport near New York City.
Westchester Airport is a growing airport that mostly serves the corporate world but airlines such as JetBlue and US Airways run flights in and out of the airport.
A fellow air traffic controller is stepping forward to blow the whistle on what they say is a very serious situation that needs the be addressed:
‘I’m upset and and extremely concerned about the things that are taking place at Westchester Tower,’ the informant is quoted as saying.
The FAA says their is a temporary agreement with the airport to let controllers take breaks in the control room itself. The elevator is broken and the normal break room is eight floors down, hence the temporary agreement:
“the use of cell phones is strictly prohibited in the tower, however, employees have temporarily been permitted to use devices for texting and e-mail only on their personal breaks, but not when on position directing air traffic.”
